Character Name: Leon Kuwata

Age/Gender: High school age, so probably 17, give or take a year. (At the very least in the 15-17 or so age range but probably more towards the latter because of spoiler reasons.)
Canon Point: End of chapter one. So post death.

History:

Please note: this is a spoiler-free version of the history. The one with spoilers doesn't matter either way since Leon doesn't remember it and I wouldn't want to load that many spoilers on you guys either way.

Leon was accepted to the famous school Hope's Academy - a school only for students with really great talents. Leon's talent was being a Super High School Level Baseball Player (aka he's just really good at baseball, even though he's lazy and refuses to go to practice ever). But the moment he entered the school something weird happened, he passed out and when he woke up he and fourteen other students were trapped in the school - the doors had been replaced by heavy locked ones and the windows were covered up with metal boards. Escape was impossible, and to boot it a bear or sorts appeared and told him and all the other students that the only way to get out of the school was to kill one of the other students. Otherwise all of them would have to spend the rest of their lives inside the school.

Of course everyone panicked, but even so they did try to live more or less normally in the beginning.. until the bear (Monobear) started to provide incentives for murdering. He showed all of them videos of their life outside the school having gone horribly wrong without them being there (Naegi's family disappeared, Maizono's idol career in shambles) and this caused all of them to panic, but the one who really snapped because of it was Sayaka Maizono, whose career was simply everything to her.

And so Leon is the culprit of the very first murder - he was called over to Maizono room by her as part of her plan to murder him, only to get attacked by her with a knife. He desperately fought back, but in the end he ended up being the one going too far and killing her instead. During the trial that Monobear organized to find the culprit afterwards the other students found all of it out and voted for him as the culprit, after which he got executed by Monobear (the punishment for killing someone else and being found out) and dies.

Personality: To sum up Leon easily, I'd just have to say most of us know a guy like him; aka an idiot who just tries way too hard. He's shown from the very start to be very informal and brash, even in his introduction - and throughout the game he constantly uses phrases like "bro", "totally" and "what's up?" He has some sort of natural talent for making an idiot out of himself by being derpy in his cockiness. ("That's right! I wanna be a musician! Don't you think I have the aura of this century's greatest vocalist? I can't believe I said this in front of this country's most popular idol. Aren't I so cool?!", said to Maizono for example. He also doesn't hesitate in the slightest in saying "Welcome to my Superstar Room!" when Naegi enters his room.) It's therefore easy to guess that Leon isn't a genius, and this much is true, it doesn't take much to outwit this idiot. In fact, a lot of the time he almost comes across as childish in his ways from the way he almost gets downright pouty at some things, like being denied a nap or complaining about boredom in a place where he could get killed anytime. ("Seriously. There's nothing to do in this place. I'm gonna die of boredom...") He even attempts to get out of the obligation to have breakfast with everyone by grinning and saying he's going to catch some more sleep. When he's denied the opportunity to slip away, he just gets all pouty-like again. At one point he's even just rambling like a dork to himself. ("Ah, I’ve become agitated for some reason. Maybe something is wrong with me? Maybe I’m sick? Hey, whoever is in charge here! You have a sick person! I want to see a doctor! ... Uuu... take me to see a doctor... please...")

Despite his own idiot ways, Leon often ends up calling out others on their idiocy as well. (He has a blind spot towards his own idiocy, most likely.) He tends to be the 'straight man' as in the fact that he points out how stuff people are saying is weird. For example when Monobear pops up and says some disturbing things and Hagakure laughs Leon just says "Are we supposed to laugh?!" Later on he tells Yamada too that "You really don't care about embarrassing yourself, do you." Sometimes this can go too far (thanks to him being overly emotional) and it descends into true insulting. ("Hey, fatty! That's too agressive!! You're like a no-good drunk old man!") Leon is not exactly the person with the most tact around. He's fairly selfish (or at the very least self-centered) and can easily lose sight of other people's feelings, especially once he gets worked up.

And getting worked up happens fairly easily and frequently for him. He's a really hot-blooded kind of guy and overly emotional in general, even randomly so at times. At one point he seems to get overly passionate out of nowhere about exploring: "Alright, everyone -- let's go exploring!!" He also tends to easily get shocked in an overly obvious and visible way. One topic he's especially passionate about are his dreams, both in the more good ("Isn't it just so cool to chase your dreams heads on?!") and more angry ("So stop fucking with me! Give me back my youth!! Give me back my dreams!!") ways. Because yes, Leon's hot-blooded qualities also work towards giving him a very short fuse and temper. He's easily riled up and once he is, he's pretty accusatory as well. ("It's funny you of all people say that. Aren't you the one trying to make us careless, just looking for an opening...?" or "You were trying to act all innocent and get me to confess what I saw, didn't you? I won't fall into that trap!")

He especially gets desperate and overly emotional when he's driven into a corner. In the end when he's absolutely cornered and practically declared the culprit already, he just starts angrily shouting 'retardedretardedretarded' over and over instead of rationally arguing back. It's most likely this tendency of his' that caused him to kill Maizono as well - once she attacked him he flew into one of his fits, which caused him to lose all sense of rational thought and kill her in return. This can also be seen in the way he tries to justify his crime later on. "I... didn't have any choice..... I was about to get killed myself... Th...that's why... I didn't have any choice..." He obviously had a choice, it's just that he was so riled up as usual that he didn't even think about it.

As mentioned above, Leon is very passionate about his dreams. But what are those? Well, right now he's a baseball player - he was admitted to their school for people with special talents as a 'Super High-school Level Baseball Player'. Naegi notes what he heard on the internet about him: "The ace 4th batter of the country's top high-school baseball team. A "Super High-school Level Baseball Player" who has been noticed by the pro league." But even though Leon is frighteningly good at playing baseball, he claims he doesn't even like the sport. He says he never goes to practice (he's a sort of lazy person with his talk about not liking practice and how he wants to sleep/nap constantly) and yet he's this good, so he's a natural genius at it. Naegi even thinks at one point that "I think god made a mistake... he gave genius to the wrong person..." But why would Leon be playing baseball then if he claims to not like it? He himself states it's for two reasons: first of all because he hates studying (more signs of laziness) and can get into school on a sports scholarship, the other reason is that it makes him more popular and makes girls like him. Leon doesn't exactly hide his obsession with girls and scoring with them - it seems to be one of his main goals in life. As he states himself: "I hate hitting the balls all day, but I love hitting the girls all night... you know what I mean!" (As a side note it should be added that despite his eagerness to score with girls, he at least seems to treat them decently despite wanting to get in their pants. This shows very much in his behaviour towards Yamada: at first Leon tells him he's like a no-good drunk man when Yamada talks about 'eating' girls (wink wink nudge nudge) and later on it shows when he's talking about Yamada looking through the (girls') trash: "But it happens very frequently, doesn't it? Not being satisfied by 2 dimensions anymore, guys like you go around doing criminal stuff in the real world.") The dream he seems to be truly passionate about is something other than baseball, as shown by his 'dislike' for baseball. He actually wants to become a very popular punk rock musician, but his main reason for that (aside from liking punk rock in general) seems to be just to be able to score with the girls more. ("Shit... If I don’t become a musician that cute girl at the hair salon will never go out with me!! That’s what she told me. She said she liked musicians. Her face isn't all that great, but she has such a dynamite body I really want to take her out!")

But there's the thing: Leon doesn't actually hate baseball, even though he always claims to dislike it. He actually admits to Naegi that he starts to miss baseball when he can't play it for a long time, for example since they're locked up in the school at that point, as much as he hates to admit it. He even decides to go back to the team 'once all of this is over', even if he has to beg them to take him back. So he actually does enjoy playing baseball, he just has weird tsundere-like habits of denying his love for it. The one thing that is true though is that he genuinely doesn't like practice and still refuses to go to practice if he'd be taken back on the team, the bum. But why would he deny the fact he actually like baseball this badly? It's most likely since Leon is very attached to a certain (punk-ish or at least 'cool') image of himself. (As shown in the fact that he says he refuses to shave his head ever again or go back to his natural hair color, to not even mention the many piercings.) As said above: he wants to score with girls and wants to be popular, and he probably thinks people don't see baseball as 'cool' compared to stuff like rock bands and the like and therefore denies liking it.

But despite being a somewhat childish and dorkily cocky idiot, a murderer and someone who seems pretty lazy and superficial, Leon isn't entirely a bad person. I won't deny that he's selfish, because he definitely is and that makes him a little douchey in his way of thinking sometimes. ("Oh, it's no good if they're popular. I want my band's vocalist - that is, me - to be the most famous!") But at the same time in the way he talks about baseball beyond the tsun we can see more of how even Leon has a sense of obligation and occasionally thinking about other people's feelings as long as he cares about the person enough. He mentions how he doesn't even want to play baseball, but his coach always comes to him personally and asks him, so he can't refuse - obviously he could technically refuse, but he doesn't since (aside from secretly just liking baseball) he doesn't want to hurt the coach's feelings. He's also pretty friendly and generally a bro once you get closer to him, as shown in his 'free activity' scenes with Naegi. He's just a see-through idiot who gets easily riled up and tries too hard to be cool in the end.

Special Abilities: Leon is a normal human and has no supernatural abilities whatsoever. It should probably be noted that he's a sportsman though (a really good baseball player) so he's not a pushover physically.

How did your character die? Like said in the history section, he committed a murder (although, in his defense, it wasn't premediated and he did it out of desperation since he was about to get killed himself, he didn't even have a cool head during it) and then was found out for it during the classroom trial, which meant by the school rules that he had to be executed for it. What followed was his execution called 'Million Fungoes' in which, as the name implies, he was tied to a pole and tons of baseballs were shot at him with rapid speeds. Obviously any human being would die from that, yup.

Nobody could say Leon Kuwata wasn't a very spirited and energetic person, not with his sudden moments of extreme emotion. But even so, once there was something he wasn't motivated enough for, he managed to be the most lazy person in the world. And today just happened to be one of those moments, even though it should have been obvious in advance. For once he showed up the baseball practice, but.. he was only reminded of the reasons he never did it. It was like being at school after school, it was way too hot (what if he would get sweaty?!), he was too lazy for this. So soon, after the first five minutes of practice or so, Leon had already managed to sneak away from the rest of the team. He figured they wouldn't notice for a bit either way, they should be used to practicing without him, right?

Instead he made his way across the big grassy field they were practicing on to find a patch of grass just bathing in sunlight. And there - letting out a very deep breath - he dropped himself backwards on the grass, the ball he was still holding rolling away a little until it was lying still a slight distance from him in the grass. At least in the ugly team uniform he wouldn't have to worry about his normal cool clothes getting dirty from it, so this situation was just ideal to laze around here like this a little, right? Right -- he stretched with a yawn, like some sort of cat lying there in the sun. Yup, these sure were ideal lazing circumstances, as if he wouldn't be allowed to get some shut-eye here..

And the moment that thought flashed through his mind, he was already half gone. Half gone off into a dream world, that was, since he closed his eyes and just fell asleep there as if he didn't have a single care in the world during his lazing. Whatever, just practice without him, he was already way too good compared to the rest of the team, as if a baseball talent like him would need anything like practice..

.. All that lasted until a voice snapped him out of his dreams filled with fame, music and hot chicks - a voice that definitely didn't belong to a hot chick, it was way too low and loud for that. "Kuwata!"

With a snap the boy immediately sat up, screaming as if he was being attacked rather than being woken up. The moment his gaze met the coach's dark look though, his expression turned a little more apologetic instead, rubbing the back of his neck. "Uh.. I can explain?"

That was the day Leon Kuwata decided he might as well never go to practice either way.

Did you read the rules and F.A.Q.? NOPE, I'M A RULE BREAKER-- I mean, yup.
